Wilson Cottage: It’s a huge mansion in Harsil village made by Frederick E.Wilson in 1864 when the Raja of Tehri refused to shelter him after he deserted from the British Army, this was the time when he moved towards Harsil. He introduced the villagers to apple cultivation and built a 350 ft. long suspension bridge over Jadganga for local people. However, you will not be able to see this bridge but the traces of its remains are still there and locals called him “Pahari Wilson”. He fell in love with a Garhwali girl named Gulabi who belongs to the village Mukhba. The local people of Harsil and Mukhba still tell tales about them. While visiting this cottage you will encounter the names of Wilson’s three sons: Natthu, Charli Sahib and Indri by local people.

2. Bagori Village: Bagori village is just 15 minutes away from Harsil which boasts approximately 150 wooden houses. To reach the village, visitors have to pass through three small bridges before arriving at Bagori. The entrance of the village is marked by the temple of the local deity, Laal Devta, alongside a Buddhist temple. Despite being deserted during winters, the village’s beauty is striking as it is home to the Bhotia people whose name translates to “people from the north” whose heritage is seen in their houses.real heritage of the village.

3. Mukhba Village: It is a small village in the town of Harsil, enroute  pilgrimage of Gangotri. It is situated at an altitude of 2,620 meters above sea level. Every year on Diwali the idol of Ganga is brought down to the  temple in Mukhba with a procession of devotees accompanied by the  Indian military band of Garhwal Rifles. This enchanting valley offers some of the most beautiful Himalayan landscapes with snow-capped valleys, dense pine forests, and breathtaking views of the snow-clad peaks of Shrikanth, Hindyani, Jaonli, and Sumeru to name a few.

Jangla to Jhala (River Rafting in 20 km stretch): A trip without adventure is always incomplete so don’t miss out  on an exhilarating river rafting adventure in Harsil, where the journey spans a distance of 20 km from Jungle Pul to Jhala Pul. This captivating expedition encompasses three distinct locales, including Jangla, Harsil, and Jhala. Prices of river rafting in Harsil range from INR 1,000 to 4,500, depending on the facilities and distance covered. 

5. Sattal Harsil: Sat tal is a cluster of seven high-altitude natural lakes that are located near the town of Harsil. You need to trek 3 km from Dharali village which will lead you to this majestic place which is enveloped by the dense lush greenery of pine trees which is a treat to behold. This location is famous for trekking especially when the area is covered under the white sheath of snow.

6. Gangotri: Visiting Gangotri Temple is also a part of Char Dham Yatra of Uttarakhand and Harsil marks the origin of the Ganges River and the temple dedicated to Goddess Ganga is a place of worship. 1. How to Reach Harsil?

  • By Air 

The most convenient way to reach Harsil is from Dehradun, the nearest Airport is Jolly Grant Airport. It is quite difficult to get direct transport to Harsil from Dehradun/Haridwar but there are taxi and bus services available from Dehradun to Uttarkashi which is just 2-3 hours away from Harsil.

  • By Train

The nearest major railway station is Dehradun Railway Station. After reaching there you can take a bus or shared taxi to reach Uttarkashi in 4.5 hours and from there, a local taxi would take you to Harsil in a drive of 3.5 hours.

  • By Bus

Harsil is situated on National Highway No. 108 where State transport buses run regularly between Uttarkashi and Dehradun/Rishikesh taking about 6 hours in all. However, the timings of buses are from 6 a.m – 12 a.m, after 1 p.m only private vehicles operate which are quite expensive. Further local buses to Harsil can be opted from Uttarkashi taking you to Harsil in another 3.5 hours.

2. Accommodation

Despite being a  small settlement  , stretching only a few kilometers, Harsil offers a range of accommodations, from cozy lodges and homestays to comfortable resorts, here you might choose a homestay in the nearby Dharali village or properties on the banks of River Bhagirathi.
